Countdown to The Organization of Women Writers of Africa Yari Yari Conference: Evelyne Trouillot

Evelyne Trouillot has been chosen to be part of the Yari Yari Conference’s closing panel in Ghana, meaning her voice will be one of the last ones heard by those in attendance and her message one of the last ones retained.  She plans to take the audience through Haiti’s history by using her works to highlight journeys of the citizens that history books could not recount. 


 

 

 

  

 

TALIE needs to drop an album, like NOW!

If the upcoming Haitian artists that have emerging in the past few years are any indication of Haiti’s musical future it is incredibly bright with intricate word imagery, profound messages, proud nods to our culture and history and melodious rifts. Where we were once surprised by then-newcomers Jhanesta, Belo and Tifane, we now have Wanito, J Perry and TALIE. Talie is definitely Haitian and the influence is there, but her voice and style is not particular to Haitian music.

 

 

 

 

Miami Fashion Week: CCWC Trunk Show 

The Curves Conquering With Confidence (CCWC) Network Corp coordinated a small trunk show sponsored by the African American Research Library and Cultural Center that aimed to bring the African culture and fashion to South Florida. The featured designers were African designers Sally Ocran and Wumi’O during Miami Fshion Week.

Countdown to The Organization of Women Writers of Africa Yari Yari Conference: GINA A. ULYSSE

Yari Yari Ntoaso: Continuing the Dialogue is a symposium of literature by women of African descent taking place in Accra, Ghana, May 16-19, 2013. Three Haitian women writers will be part of this conference, including Gina A. Ulysse who exclusively speaks to HIP's Shadine Ménard about Yari Yari and why it's important for Haitian women.
